Description

Whether you're new to cloth diapering or have been at it for years, you've heard of woolies, longies, or soakers. If you're confused about what they are or why you might want to choose them, scroll down!

I use a time-tested pattern of ribbed crochet fabric that has lots of stretch to help extend fit into the next size range. While most hand-knit/crocheted soakers are made from worsted weight yarn, I use fingering-weight yarn (aka sock yarn), which makes my soakers much less bulky under clothes.

STYLES

Shorties/Soakers – These look most like underwear or a regular diaper cover. They’re usually used under clothes or as a combo of short pants/diaper cover in the warmer months.

Longies – These are longer pant-style wool covers that are usually worn on their own.

Skirties – A shortie/soaker with attached skirt.

SIZE

This listing is for a 24-36 month size soaker. See images for measurements. Custom sizes are also available, just message me!

COLORS

See images for color options. I also do custom dyes occasionally, so feel free to message me to request a particular color or combination of colors. (Perfect matches not guaranteed.)

WHAT ARE WOOL SOAKERS?

Wool soakers (aka longies, woolies, shorties and soakers) are diaper covers made from wool and designed to be worn over cloth diapers. Soakers are typically made from the softest wool fibers so they are gentle to baby skin.

BENEFITS OF WOOL

The beauty of wool is that it can absorb up to one-third of its own weight in liquid before it feels wet, it's naturally antibacterial and antifungal (reducing diaper rash), it neutralizes urine odors, and it is extremely breatheable (unlike synthetic covers). Wool soakers can be worn in both warm and cool months and are great for use both day and night.

HOW DO WOOL SOAKERS WORK?

When the diaper becomes wet, the wool wicks the moisture away from the diaper (and baby's skin) by absorbing it. Lanolin, a naturally-occurring oil, keeps the urine from leaking back out of the wool quickly. Over time, the lanolin needs to be replaced (roughly every 2-4 weeks) to help the soaker maintain its super absorbent abilities. The process of renewing the lanolin is simple and inexpensive.

Between uses, air out your wool soaker by laying it flat. Once dry, the cover should have no urine odor. Small poop stains can be spot-washed but a full-on blowout will probably require washing. Otherwise, your soakers don't need washing until they start to hold urine odors, usually every 2-4 weeks.
