Description

Rare vintage desk lamp designed by ERICH LANG for German manufacturer SIS, Type (model) 62, dating from the early 1960s and typical of designs of the same period by Kaiser Idell, Kalff, Hala and Stilnovo. The lamp features a round lampshade, which is made of sheet metal, lacquered matte bright red with a wrinkled/textured finish on the outside, and white on the inside to maximise light reflection. There is one bulb casing placed in a cylinder sitting on top of the lampshade. The top of the cylinder has a circular opening. The stem is made of a flexible brass rod, so that the direction of the lampshade can be adjusted up and down, as well as left and right. The rectangular base is detailed with raised angles and it is made of cast iron, with a sheet metal cover lacquered matte cream with a wrinkled/textured finish. The original SIS signature label is still present underneath the base and reads: “SIS Type 62 Watt 60”.

The lamp is in good vintage condition and in full working order. There are some marks commensurate with age and usage, as is usual for an item dating from more than 50 years ago: A few faint use-related marks and small blemishes on the lampshade’s lacquer work; the back of the lampshade’s cylinder has a shallow dent where it is fixed to the stem; a few scratches and minute oxidation stains on the brass stem; a few use-related scratches and marks on the base’s lacquer work. However, these do not interfere with the overall look of the piece and do not affect its structural integrity and stability. Please review carefully all the pictures, as they are an integral part of the description.

The lamp takes one Edison screw bulb (not provided). It is fitted with its original white vintage cord and continental plug. The original white on/off switch button is located on the base. The lamp is fully functional but it has not been tested: As with all vintage electrical equipment, it is advisable to have it checked by a qualified electrician.

Dimensions:
Height (adjustable): regular position (picture #1) ca. 40 cm/15.6"; max. upright position ca. 46 cm/18"
Diameter of lampshade: ca. 17,5 cm/7"
Length of base: ca. 15 cm/5.9"
Width of base: front ca. 9 cm/3.5"; back ca. 7 cm/2.7"
Length of cord: ca. 121 cm/47.5"
