Description

This listing is for a very unique, hand-made sterling silver pendant, designed for Civil War relic hunters, metal detecting enthusiasts and history buffs in-general. My name is Leonard Short and I have combined my two careers of goldsmith/jewelry designer and artifact restoration to create a line of metal detecting jewelry. This pendant is a precision replica, modeled from a Union, New York State Military Seal Militia button (Alberts NY30 / Tice NY220W) that was worn during the American Civil War by New York State officers and enlisted men.
This pendant is NOT an actual Civil-War period artifact!!
The New York troops that wore these style buttons on their uniforms were many and they participated in all major theaters of the Civil War.
This particular style of New York button was one of many variations of this pattern that represented the State of New York during the Civil War. This die variant was supplied by the Goddard & Brother Manufacturing company, located in Newark and New York. However,it is not known if the Goddard brothers purchased all buttons bearing their back mark from other manufacturers or if their firm actually produced them.
The button's State Military Seal design was an adaptation of the State's Coat of Arms. The Military Seal has a large shield with two halves. The left half originated from the design on the State's Coat of Arms and has the Hudson River in the foreground with mountain ranges and rising sun in the background. The other half has an American flag. These two halves are to represent the New York troops' allegiance to both State and Country. The crest of the Military seal has an eagle perched on top of a world globe. Beneath the shield and eagle crest is the word "EXCELSIOR" (Latin for "ever upward"). On the perimeter of the button are thirteen stars. The State Coat of Arms would be different in that the shield would be missing the American flag and would be flanked with Lady Liberty on one side of the shield and Justice on the other. Also missing would be the 13 stars.
The button's Military Seal design is superimposed on a lined background. All details of this button's design are sharp and crisp in the execution of the silver pendant replica. The bail on this pendant is uniquely crafted with long-term wear in mind. It has an opening that measures 3mm x 6mm in order to accommodate a very substantial chain. In addition, the bail has my signature, hinge mechanism. This is a unique pendant design that you will not find anywhere else!

This relic pendant is expertly made. Such attention to detail. It's smooth all over with no rough spots at all. The detail of the image is just like the representative photo. The bail is made to last. Easy to converse with the seller. Item shipped quickly and was wrapped very well. Comfortable weight for me, and this one is exactly 10 grams. I can't say enough about the craftsmanship as it is wonderful. As a Civil War history buff, this is a unique addition to my pendant collection.
