Description

This is the Edo period Samurai Kamishimo. Kamishimo meaning "top and bottom" for the matching kataginu vest, and hakama pants. This was the formal costume of Samurai of the Edo period (1600-1867). The kataginu vest features wide shoulders with pleats, and narrow front panels for ease of sword carrying. Kataginu is unlined, and features stitched pleats at the hem line (for ease of ironing). Kataginu and hakama are both machine washer friendly. This is the perfect thing to wear to martial arts events, for cosplay, reinactment, or to complete your kimono. You get to pick the color. The most traditional fabric is a blue field with thousands of stenciled white dots. Unfortunately this fabric is next to impossible to find nowadays, especially outside of Japan. So a modern single tone color is a great substitute. If you are wanting to stick in the traditional range, blue and black are great colors, but you can choose whatever color you want! You can even choose to have the hakama in one color and the kataginu in another if you'd like! This is for the kataginu and hakama only, kimono not included! I usually construct the hakama and kataginu from either linen, cotton twill, cotton sateen, or poly blend materials. (if you have a preference for a specific fabric however please let me know!) To make your hakama, I just need your waist size (I can do just about any size), and waist to ankle measurement. Attention foreign buyers, you are responsible for (if any) customs dues upon arrival of your item. If your waist is larger than 42" there will be an extra $15 fee to cover additional fabric costs.
The pictures of my friends in the gray kamishimo and black kimono are some of my customers, and I feel its one of the finest examples of my work and quality! Please remember, this is is just for the kataginu and hakama, hakama-shita kimono top and han-juban sold seperately!
