This old hammer has been cast, hammered, and etched with round circles which likely represent chameleon eyes. People in Algeria, Morocco, Mali, and nomadic Berbers and Tuaregs have made similar hammers.

Sugar hammers were used throughout the world before sugar cubes were invented in 1843. Prior to then, sugar was sold in cones. The hammer was a required tool for breaking the big pieces into serving chunks. Africans have continued to use hammers more recently to break up chunks of sugar for tea.

The hammer is 9" long, 5-1/4" wide, and 1/4" thick.

The shipping price quoted is for U.S., but I will ship internationally.
