Description

Fine French pottery serving plate with a fanciful scalloped edge. This lovely small platter was made in France by the Henriot Quimper factory before 1948. The center of the server shows the classic "Petit Breton" figure of a man dressed in the traditional garb of the region. This entire plate was hand made and hand painted, including the navy blue line that circles the scalloped border.
The platter is signed in two places. The front signature is underneath the figure and reads "HB Quimper". The signature on the back is the simple conjoined "HB" with three dots and a dash underneath. This dot and dash system would identify the artist who painted the pottery. This system was used up until 1948.
This piece of Quimper pottery is in very good condition. There are no cracks, chips or repairs. The only damage is a slight amount of wear on the edge of the dish where the glaze has been worn away. (Please see my photo of the bottom edge) The whole platter has a clear shiny glaze.
This hand painted platter has two holes on the bottom foot rim which where designed to have a wire placed through them if the owner wished to display this dish on the wall for a French farmhouse accent.
