I'm so proud that this artist book was included in the juried "Pop Up Now!" exhibition at Sandy Gallery in Portland, Oregon. The show ran from September 22 to October 22, 2010 in conjunction with the Movable Book Society's biennial conference and enjoyed the greatest attendance ever for this premier gallery of book arts. This is actuality two books in one. The first is an accordion with a folio binding. The contents include original art from hand-carved stamps and prayers for peace from the holy books of the world’s three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The prayers were offered by leaders of the these religions at the 1986 Day of Prayer for World Peace in Assisi, Italy.

The other is a pop-up book constructed from one large piece of paper, printed on both sides and ingenuously cut and folded to create a six-page structure without adhesives or sewing. The pages and pop-up images include phrases and symbols from the three major religions that artistically express the human longing for a peaceful existence. The pop-up book fits within a pocket on the front of the folio, embellished by a sterling silver dove, also handmade by the artist.

These books are a collaborative effort between Mary Jane Henley and Mabel Dean - a metaphor for our own heartfelt prayers for peace. They were printed in a limited edition of 50 sets. Each book is signed and numbered by the artists. A few are still available. Others sold after exhibition at Details and Art gallery in Tucson, Arizona and the Rotunda Gallery in the State Capitol of New Mexico in Santa Fe.

Colophon: Original art manipulated using Photoshop Elements and printed on Canson Mi-Teintes paper with an Epson R2400. Text in Papyrus printed on Strathmore 500 Series paper with the same printer. Folio covered with Nepali Lokta. Handmade sterling silver bookmark.
