Description

A vintage Harrach glass fruit bowl designed in the mid to late 1950s.

It was designed by Milos Pulpitel, Rudolf Schwedler and Milan Metelak in 1955.

The pink swirl bowl is part of the 'Harrtil' range and has internal glass fibres.

An identical vase version of this bowl is reference on page 76 of Mark Hill's book 'Sklo' where it states:

"A mid-late 1950s Harrach 'Harrtil' range vase, with pink swirl, designed by Milos Pulpitel and Rodlf Schwedler in 1955. 'Harrtil' was one of the most important ranges of the period for Harrach. The idea for using woven glass fibres (from Czech manufacturer Vertex) was devised by head of production Milos Pulpitel in 1954, after he was inspired by antique Venetian 'lace' glass and (reputedly) seeing a mass of overhead telephone cables. The first forms were designed by Rudolf Schwedler in late 1954, with the range being patented in January 1955. Milan Metelak contributed other forms later in the 1950s & 1960s, with facet-cut forms being introduced in 1958."

The item is:

13cm (5 inches) high;
28cm (11 inches) wide;
20cm (8 inches) deep;
and weighs 1.6kg (3.5 pounds).

The bowl is in great vintage condition with no scratches, chips, cracks or bruises. It has obviously been used and so there are marks on it commensurate with age but none that detract from the beauty of the piece.
