Globe Shaped Horsehair and Smoke Fired Ceramic Pot

This round vase is characterized by particularly dramatic and interesting horsehair markings, as well as a textured misty effect from the smoke firing in burning straw. Made of raku clay, horsehair pots are subject to radical changes in temperature -- switching from a 1900F red hot kiln to a 70F pottery studio in a matter of seconds. For this reason, horsehair firing requires exceptionally strong clay. The gracefully rounded shape of the pot sets off the striking pattern of horsehair and the textured feeling of the smoke firing. Its proportions are sweetly balanced, and in keeping with the tradition of fine quality, handmade pottery. It is not to be used for preparing or serving food. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the microwave, and the oven.
