Description

Up for sale is a lover's eye. Beautifully and delicately painted on a wafer, this charming pin is only 3/4" x 17/32" from edge to edge, with the portrait itself measuring (very roughly) 1/2" x 3/8". These pieces were unmarked as to karat weight, but many were 9 karat, which is what I assume this to be, not having tested it. (Please note that the rectangular edge immediately surrounding the lover's eye portrait is gold. I realize that in some of the photos it looks tarnished - but it isn't. Please see photos #4, #9 and #10, in which the gold edge is easier to see.) The surrounding to the portrait has six coral beads embedded within it, with two each on the sides and one on the top and the bottom. I have not tested these either, but the imperfections seen in the photos speak to me of their authenticity. (To my naked eye the imperfections are not visible at all, but my photos are taken with a macro lens, so they look sizable in the photos.)

Please note that this is NOT a reproduction, nor is it a newly made piece; it is a GENUINE, early 19th- or an 18th-century piece in original condition. (I have seen several fakes on Etsy that are being represented otherwise. There are also on Etsy newly-made pieces by artists that are represented correctly and fairly, being disclosed as such.)

These mementos were tiny in size, meant to be worn discreetly as a tribute to a loved one who had died or someone with whom one was having a dalliance. They were worn near the heart but difficult for others to see.

This particular lover's eye is, as I note above, beautifully and softly painted as one can see from the photos, and it's clear that a sensitive and master painter crafted the look of the eye.

International buyers: Please note that ALL VAT charges are the responsibility of the buyer. The price you pay covers ONLY the cost of the item plus international shipping; all other costs and charges are your responsibility.

Fully insured shipping in the United States is $14. The cost for international postage (Canadian buyers please be aware that the USPS considers Canada as "International" as far as shipping.) is $65.00 and includes tracking and insurance. I send all packages, including those going internationally, via ONLY USPS. Please note that the cost of international shipping is HIGHER than I am charging, as you will see from the postage stamp. I am happy to combine shipping.

Please note that I do NOT ship to Italy, Russia or China; however, I am otherwise happy to ship internationally.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I accept PayPal from U.S. or international buyers. I will also accept bank wires from overseas buyers. (Etsy does not permit domestic bank wires.) Unfortunately, as a small seller I am not set up to directly accept charge cards, although Etsy may be able to do so and just credit me the funds, so give it a try!

For those items for which I accept layaway, full payment is expected within (by the end of) three months from the date of the first payment. No extensions will be given. If the item has not been fully paid for within that time, (by the end of three months from the first payment,) 50 percent of all monies paid by the prospective buyer will be forfeited, as someone else might have bought the item during that time.

Ship items back within: 30 days of delivery

I don't accept exchanges

But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged

Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
  • Custom or personalized orders
  • Perishable products (like food or flowers)
  • Digital downloads
  • Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Returns and exchange details

Within 7 days. Buyer pays return shipping. I generally have a "No questions asked" return policy, but the item must be returned in exactly the same condition as shown in the listing photos and as described.
Orders MUST be returned:
• with tracking - if no tracking is purchased and the item being returned is lost or delivered to any address other than the address from which it came, because it will not be able to be found due to lack of tracking, I will be unable to issue a refund.
• with insurance - If item is damaged on its return, and no insurance was purchased, I will be unable to offer a refund.

Shipping policies

I ship within two business days, but generally on the same day as purchase, as long as the post office is still open. That is why my cancellation window is only two hours; I get my items on their way to you that fast! Fully insured shipping in the United States is as stated in the invoice. The cost for international postage (Canadian buyers please be aware that the USPS considers Canada as "International" as far as shipping.) is $65.00 and includes tracking and insurance. I send all packages, including those going internationally, via USPS. Please note that the cost of both domestic and international shipping is HIGHER than I am charging, as you will see from the postage stamp. (If, by any chance, I have inadvertently overcharged for shipping because I estimate, I will refund the difference.) I am happy to combine shipping.

Please note that I do not refund when the buyer provides an incorrect address unless the item is returned to me. If the item is returned to me, I will provide a refund for the item minus the shipping cost - assuming the item is in the same condition as when I sent it out. It is the customer's responsibility to provide to Etsy the correct address to which to send an item, and I can and will only ship to the address Etsy provides.
