The Eight Views of Omi are a series of eight landscapes in Shiga Prefecture, Japan. (Formerly Omi Province.) They were most famously depicted in the 19th century by woodblock printer Utagawa Hiroshige.

While living in Shiga Prefecture, I visited the site of each of the eight views and painted a modern version. This print is of the Floating Pavilion in Katata, one of the few views that is almost unchanged over time. Inside the pavilion are one thousand statues of Amitabha, said to have been hand-carved by the monk who built the original temple. Today, the windy temple provides a lovely escape from the summer heat in Shiga.

This is a digital print on white textured paper.
