Description

This is an acrylic painting of the beach at Seaburn in Sunderland on the North East coast of England. I have lived by the coast all my life and I am constantly amazed by the infinite variations of water and skies it offers. Friends who visit from other parts of the country always comment on the immensity of the skies up here and I am inspired by the ever changing light, weather, moods and atmospheres .The weather and the sea on the North East coast of England can change quickly, it can be dead calm and inviting one minute then extremly stormy, threatening and deadly the next.
This canvas depicts a winter storm, looking across at Roker Pier and lighthouse being battered by huge waves. The viewpoint is from the "Cat and Dog Steps" at Seaburn looking south towards Roker.
The style of the work is a blend of realism and impressionism. The canvas is float mounted in a rustic, handmade 4.5 cm. block wood frame.
I have sold many paintings - often to Sunderland folk who now live out of the area. Its satisfying to think of someone as far away as Australia or America looking fondly at their own view of their old home coastline.

This piece is SO charming and lovely. Both the frame and the subject go so well together. Already so dear to me.

I love this so much! It is even better in real life than the pictures. And the little pebble snowman gift so much appreciated! Wrapped with love and care I will treasure this x
