Description

Carolina Lily Antique Quilt in solid red, green, and yellow on white ground is beautifully hand quilted in a dense grid pattern with tiny, even stitches. The baskets and lilies are also outline quilted. This pattern is also called Basket of Lilies. The back of the quilt and the separately applied binding are solid white cotton. The inner batting is light-weight cotton. This quilt is in pristine condition and has been rarely if ever used. The quilt measures 68 inches by 74 inches and will fit nicely on a twin bed, or it will be beautiful when draped over a chair or sofa, or hung on a wall, I would estimate that the quilt was made sometime between 1910 and 1930 based on the use of the bright solid colors, but the quilt could actually be older and date from the 1880s.

The first photo is taken outside in natural light. This quilt was made by a truly expert quilter and the result is spectacular. The hand quilting is done in an overall grid pattern with lines one inch apart. The stitches are so tiny and precise they could almost be mistaken for machine stitching. The color combination of red, green, and yellow has been highly sought after over the years. The fabrics in the quilt are still vivid and crisp, with no stains, fading, or areas of wear. The second photo shows the quilt on a bed. The third photo is taken on a full size bed, where the sides barely reach to the bottom of the mattress on each side. This quilt would be just perfect on a twin size bed. The fourth photo is a closeup of one of the lily blocks. Each block is this perfect and the colors are just wonderful. The fifth photo shows the quilt folded to reveal the solid white back. The hand quilting is stunning and this shot shows both the grid pattern as well as the outline quilting of the basket and lilies. The final two photos show the back of the quilt. There are very faint shadows of the colors from the front showing through to the white back, and there is a slight hint of color bleed of the yellow on the back, but it is almost too subtle to see in the photos. The final photo is a very detailed view..

Please contact me if I can supply additional information. This is a really special quilt and I would be glad to answer any questions.
