Description

This simple but striking textile was handmade by a Guatemalan artisan using a backstrap loom.

Each region of Guatemala has their own unique textile design. Like other aspects of the culture, the designs change with time. Guatemalan weavers know a textile’s region and age by the design. This textile is from the Aguacatan region and is approximately 25 years old.

It was originally a corte (wrap skirt) and sewn together in the shape of a cylinder. However, you could easily cut or seam-rip the seam to create a large rectangle of fabric to be used as a blanket, tablecloth, pillowcases and more. Features colorful stripes and embroidered Xs.

101 x 28.5 inches (item is folded in photos and much larger in person)

100% cotton (thick and soft)

The top and bottom edge are both raw cut edges. This item is in wonderful vintage condition.
