Description

A Mid-Century Swedish Holmegaard Per Lutken Bowl!

Weights/Dimensions: 1lbs 10oz or approx 747g / 9" at longest point in diameter

On today's coffee or cocktail table it can hold a variety of delicious treats like Turkish Delight or any Candy, Nuts, or Fruits. These dishes have also been used on the dresser, in the bathroom, or closet to hold jewelry, cuff links, a money clip, coins, hair clips, and any other items for the night.

Background:

A decorative mid century modern bowl from Holmegaard Sweden. Large, heavy Scandinavian glass bowl in blue or aqua. Etched on base: "Holmegaard PL 220343".

Condition: Great condition: No chips, cracks, or open bubbles. Very minor shelf wear/scuffing on the base.

About the artist: Lutken, and his glassblowers developed a technique for blowing glass using steam from wet wood, inserted into the gather of hot glass. The "fried egg" in the middle of the bowl is another typical feature. Lutken (born 1916) lived for glass. He was employed at Holmegaard from 1942 until his death in 1998. His autobiography was called, "Glass is Life". The design was very successful and continued to be made for some time. Earlier pieces, like this one, have the year and Lutken's PL monogram.

I love him! I was a little surprised at his size but I had the perfect place in my home. It's amazing how perfect he is considering his age. Thank you!
