Make a classic beret hat with this digital sewing pattern.

The beret is a timeless classic, and a perfect wear-with-everything hat. This is my personal favourite hat, ideal for wearing on cool days through the Autumn and Winter season, made up in cosy wool fabrics. I personally love using it to recycle old coats and jackets. The beret has a sectioned crown, a side band, and a fabric-covered button on the top. It can be made lined or unlined, and is meant to have a floppy look. It can be worn on the top or back of the head, or on an angle to one side.

Taking less than a metre of fabric (most sizes and layouts are less than half a metre) and a few hours to complete, it is a lovely little project, good for using leftover yardage or recycled materials.

There are two views. View A has a six-section crown and narrow side band. View B has an eight-section crown and a wide side band. The side band and crowns of either view can be combined for a total of 4 beret looks.

The beret pattern is in 3 sizes
1 – 53-55 cm (approx. 21-21.75 inches)
2 – 55-57 cm (approx. 21.75-22.5 inches)
3 – 57-59 cm (approx. 22.5-23.25 inches)

Difficulty: This is a relatively simple pattern to follow. Some of the sewing is a little tricky, but requires no special knowledge, just patience.

Assumed knowledge:
• basic machine sewing skills that cover sewing a straight stitch on your machine
• basic hand sewing skills
• some experience using a simple sewing pattern

There are two pdf files included for download. The instruction file includes detailed step-by-step process instructions with photos, as well as information about fabrics, tools and notions and everything else you need to know to sew up your own Grevillea beret. The pattern file has all of the pattern pieces for the beret in the three sizes.

You will need a pdf reader to access and print the files. The pattern pages must be printed at 100% scale. Some pattern pieces cover multiple pages and will need to be taped together before use. The instruction document contains all the information you need on how to do this.

A note on licensing:
Selling hats made from this pattern is allowed, provided they are made by the purchaser of the pattern.
