Description

A cute little table lamp from the series 'Metropolis' made from a young white coconut shell originally from Thailand. Like the other lamps of this series the motif consists of zigzag lines inspired from Arabic calligraphy and tribal art on a background of tiny 0.7mm holes. These lines which are relief carved, are punctuated by larger holes which allow more light out and underline the motifs. The carving was done with a high speed mini drill and tungsten carbide burrs. The shell is v ery white without spots and the relief carving is very fine. A smooth silky finish was obtained using very fine sandpaper. No chemicals were used.
Once lit the lamp creates an impressive firework-like display of light and shadow on all surrounding surfaces.
The coconut shell is screwed onto a matt black wooden base fitted with a 15W E14 bulb, a 2 meter power cord with switch (220v Europe*) and non-slip felt pads on the underside. (see last photo).
This is, as always with Artalia, a one of a kind creation entirely hand made in the South of France.

Dimensions with base: height 11cm width 11.5cm weight 300g

* FOR USA: A bulb adaptor (E14/E12) and mains plug adaptor (220/110v) are included
