:: Item Details ::

This gorgeous representation of the Art Deco design work of Herbert Smith & Vincent Broomhall (with help from Don & Viktor Schreckengost) was patented in 1935, slightly postdating the more familiar Salem Tricorne.

This pattern was featured in an article "A Handful of Dust" in Issue 4 of Rue Magazine (beginning on pg.92 http://www.ruemag.com/issues/issue-four/ ) and goes well with any white dinnerware that has silver or platinum decoration, especially Calvin Klein's contemporary "Platinum" for Swid Powell...

Maker’s marks on both pieces read “U.S. PATENT D. 96445, STREAMLINE By SALEM”, while the Creamer also has “9005” stamped above.

:: Condition & Measurements ::

Excellent vintage condition - light crazing overall as expected for this age; both pieces are very clean inside, with no chips, cracks, discoloration, or repairs.

Creamer is 6 inches from spout to handle [15.5cm] and 2.25 inches high [5.75cm], while Sugar Bowl is 7 inches [17.8cm] from handle to handle.

:: Creating Your Own Customized Atomic Art Deco Dinnerware Set ::

Now you can pick and choose to create your own personal set of atomic Art Deco Salem dinnerware; we've acquired a large collection of these iconic vintage dishes, mostly Streamline / Tricorne shapes in Mandarin Orange, but also some Zephyr (white with platinum) and other patterns.

You can choose a set for a particular number of people – an intimate pair of place settings for 2 all the way up to a Wedding service for 12 – or just tell us what you’d like to spend and which pieces you prefer. Working in collaboration with you, we will create a set exactly to your specifications, pulling from available inventory. Mandarin Orange is our most plentiful pattern, but please inquire if you're interested in a different Salem pattern.

Once we've designed your perfect set, we post a custom listing, which you then purchase. If you prefer, we offer Layaway payment plans and can split your payments into several installments; just ask for details.

:: Wedding Registry Discount Program ::

When you add items from our shop to your Etsy (or other) wedding gift registry, they could still be purchased by someone else. Our Wedding Registry Discount Program enables you to ensure you get what you want: we’ll agree to reserve your selected items for up to 90 days, and if there's anything not yet purchased by the wedding date, you agree to buy them for a discount (10% - 15% depending upon quantity reserved). A deposit may be required, and purchases are generally finalized within 1 week after the big day.

:: Care & Handling ::

As with any china with metallic embellishment, these should not be used in microwaves, and we strongly recommend hand washing. Where there is surface crazing, avoid staining by restricting contact with acidic or deeply colored liquids & foods (strong coffee, beets, etc). Finally, while it is tempting to stack the pieces, doing so will quickly wear down the platinum on the handles.

PLEASE NOTE: Vintage and antique dinnerware pieces were often decorated with glazes containing varying degrees of lead, a toxic chemical. If you have a concern, please research before purchasing. To minimize exposure to lead when using vintage dinnerware, please observe the following precautions: use infrequently; do not expose to high heat, including microwaves, ovens, and dishwashers; avoid contact with acidic foods & liquids, especially if cracked or crazed (slight crackling of the clear overglaze); do not use to store food or liquids; wash by hand soon after use and allow to air dry.

We pack professionally and have a stellar track record when it comes to shipping delicate china; see our feedback or read our blog entry "Pack and Schlep" at www.SusabellaBrownstein.wordpress.org for more details!
