This beautiful, signed antique Edwardian, silver and marcasite Theodor Fahrner dress clip is in EXCELLENT condition. It is signed TF 925 and has the German DRGM patent and design protection mark. The monogrammed TF mark indicates a time period from 1902 -1910 and it would have been made in the Pforzheim factory.

Fahrner beleived that the worth of a piece lay in the success of it's design rather than the monetry value of the materials. That is particularly true of this rare and beautifully, elegant, chic and understated piece which seems to anticipate the later more geometric linear Art Deco style:- yet still retains softness and curved shapes to link it to the Jugendstil movement.
It typifies German design which was markedly less fluid than the flamboyant French Art Nouveau.
Fahrner worked closely with designers in Damstadt who encouraged him to sell to Britsh retailers such as Murrle Bennett, and Liberty and become part of the British Arts and Crafts movement; where he found a niche market producing stylish, well made jewellery by mass produced methods in limited runs.He won a silver medal at the Paris World Fair in 1900.

The clip has been placed on white card in photo 1 and 2 to illustrate the very narrow open areas .
The three leafy elongated curved shapes splay out at the ends with a narow open area approx 0.75mm wide contained by the banded edges.See photo 2
Each side is banded by graduated marcasites for part of its length. The detail then gives way to tiny granulated beads of silver. The central element becomes recessed slightly where the banded marcasites give way to the beaded detail. See photo 2
The whole clip is very slightly curved. It measures 3.6cm long ( just shy of 1.5ins) and is a maximum 1.5cm ( slightly over 0.5ins) at the widest part.

The clip has the DMG patent mark; Deutches Reichs Gesmachmuster or Grebrauchmuster. The clip mechanism,is beautifully simple--a single pointed prong on the top side, and serrated edges to both sides of the lower element.

It has been quite a challenge to try and photograph this piece and do it justice in 5 photographs;that alone describe it properly. Please convo me if you wish to see more pictures of any details or have any shipping queries and I will do my best to send you as much information as I can. If I know your location I can give you a more accurate shipping quote.
