Witch Ball. My Blown Glass Good Luck Ball is solid glass, like a paperweight, only designed to hang. Over 200 years ago, the glassblowers made what they called witch balls to hang in their windows to ward of evil spirits. Well over 20 years ago I started making witch balls in a way I thought was not only more attractive, but would be better at their intended purpose. The solid glass with interior design work and various bubbles sparkles, magnifies, and captivates with it's dancing light much more than hollow glass can do, trapping any approaching evil spirit in it's never ending interior world. While I certainly can't guarantee it's effectivness in this regard, I can certainly say it will lift your spirits as you gaze into it's constantly changing patterns and light. The measurements of the witch ball are: diameter side to side is 3", from the top of the hook to the base of the ball is 4", the hook is 13/16" from the top of the hook to where it is joined to the ball.

In this piece, in toward the center of the ball, the teardrop shaped bubble coming down from the top is encircled with small bubbles swirling around it, each with a comet like trail of golden yellow which is really quite nice and very unique. At the bottom, another teardrop shaped bubble echoes the one above, or appears to have dripped off from it. Just under the surface is a design of blue, wine red, and a touch of white which turns the red to pink in some parts. There are bubbles interspersed throughout this design as well. The bubbles serve not only as visual elements in themselves, but serve to refract and reflect the light throughout the piece in a constantly changing, constantly moving dance of light. And, like a paperweight, the elements within the piece are magnified in various ways depending on the viewing angle, especially the design work on the opposite side, which is greatly magnified. Signed "Watson" One of a Kind very unique piece not seen anywhere else.

This is a beautiful piece that can be handed down through generations. I have not made these for years now, and this is one of the few I have left. This piece comes with the hanging line and a small card that tells the story of the ball.

With all my pieces, Please be sure to check the measurements to be sure it is the size you want, as it is sometimes difficult to judge size by the photos. I take close up photos to show all the detail, and to give as accurate a look as possible, and the various size pieces all fill the photo in a similar way.
