Description

This miniature book brooch has been handmade in my Sydney studio from a cover illustration of Homer's 'The Odyssey'.

This poem thought to have been composed in 8th Century BC and is the second oldest example of Western Literature. The Iliad, also thought to be by Homer, is the first. The poem focuses on the Greek hero Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Roman myths), King of Ithaca, and his 10 year journey home after the fall of Troy.

The book brooch doesn't open, the paper illustration is wrapped around a white foam core centre. The back has a brooch pin fixed securely with industrial adhesive. The cover has been sealed and the front illustration has a coat of clear 3D Glaze giving it a nice glossy surface. While water resistant the brooch is not waterproof and should be kept away from water, moisture or perfume.

It is more lightweight and a little larger in dimensions than the polymer clay brooches on this site.

Note: Because of the tiny size of these miniature books some of the smallest wording may not be readable; these mini books are designed to be suggestive of the original but are not exact replicates.

These are individually handmade each will have its own little unique quirks, dog-ears, wear and worn patina, wobbles and warps, all reminiscent of a well-loved and well-read book.

Size: each brooch is hand made to order and may vary slightly in thickness and size but will be approximately 4.5 x 3.5cm (and 5mm thick)

Perfect for vintage lovers, writers, readers, book lovers and brooch collectors.

Please note: the foam card is lightweight and sturdy, but it is a less expensive and more delicate alternative. It is not as strong or durable as items made of polymer clay. The difference in weight and durability of materials is reflected in the price difference between these two types of items. If you see a book title in polymer clay but not in foam card like you want (or vice versa) feel free to send a message and I'll arrange to make up a custom order for you.

Care Instructions: Being made of cardboard, foam and paper these books are not waterproof. The foam card is sturdy and light to wear but the inner foam core can be easily gauged/dinted, I'd recommend storing separately.

Postage:
Additional brooches or other small items listed in this store are all very lightweight and can be easily added to your order for no additional postage costs - please let me know if you'd like to purchase something else and I'll organise a custom order for you with just 1 x postage costs.n
