This flat hinged locket with bird in flight motif is completely handmade from sterling silver sheet, wire, tube and chain. It is made by creating an etched metal plate with the design in reverse. This is pressed into sterling silver sheet using a jewellers rolling mill. All the parts are formed, cut and finished using traditional jewellers hand tools in my studio.
The bird design is from one of my original ink drawings and represents freedom, independence, reaching new heights and shedding personal limitations.
The final piece is oxidised, and polished to emphasise the design. This piece bears my maker's mark, registered at Sheffield Assay office.
There is a small amount of space inside the locket for a couple of short words, date, etc. if you would like the piece personalised, there is a small extra fee for this service.
