Original watercolor painting of a gallery of brain cells. These are based on the work done a few years ago by some Harvard and MIT researchers with mouse brain cells (you can google “Brainbows” for lots more information).
Brain Cells 1 is an original watercolor, made using a wet-in-wet technique. After I draw a grid on the paper, I paint an individual square, wait a few seconds, and then add a second color of wet paint. The paint “bleeds” naturally, creating either a “cell” with awesome natural fractal patterns or a big old blob. If the former occurs, I wait a few more seconds and add another color. Then I do this a bunch more times in different colors. To make the really skinny bits, I used a toothpick dipped in paint.
For a similar painting in a square format, see http://www.etsy.com/listing/57453099/brain-cells-2-original-watercolor
For one in blues and greens, see http://www.etsy.com/listing/58871483/blue-green-brain-cells-original
Painted with Winsor and Newton Artist’s Watercolors on extra heavy Arches paper (300lb).
Overall size 16 × 20 in an acid-free white mat with backing board.
Fits a standard 16 × 20 frame. The size of the painted area is approximately 9 × 12. Signed. Totally unique!
