Description

I have never seen anything quite like this dress. Talk about innovation. This talented wartime seamstress had limited resources available due to fabric restrictions of the war effort. Instead she chose to construct this two piece dress entirely out of rayon seam binding tape. Including the buttons. There is no sheer undergarment that forms a foundation under the dress. It is just the seam binding! The result is a one of a kind and certainly rare dress. It could very well have been a wartime wedding dress. Imagine the time and skill that went into making this dress.

The open weave two piece dress is a dusty light blue shade. The top features short cuffed sleeves and buttons up the front with buttons constructed out of balls of fabric binding. Belt loops are present on the shirt but no belt comes with the dress. The shirt has no shoulder pads. The calf length skirt has a left side zipper and a slight flare with no pleats.

Condition of this one of a kind vintage garment is excellent. The dress has not been laundered. Dress is free from stains, holes or discoloration. There is a tiny brown lipstick? mark on the underside of the hem of the skirt. Underarms areas are not stained nor do they have sweaty odors. There are a few places where the seam binding may need to be stitched down better. Some of the buttons are unraveling a bit.

Photos are taken on a dress form with a 36½ inch bust, 27½ inch waist and 37 inch hips. Skirt fits the dress form comfortably at the waist but there is some room to spare in the hips and the bust and shoulders.

Measurements of the garment, taken while flat, are as follows:

Center back of blouse to bottom hem length: 23 inches
Armpit to armpit width: 20½ inches
Width across waistband of skirt: 14½ inches
Length of skirt: 30 inches

Remember there are NO returns so if you have any questions, need additional measurements or more photos, please do not hesitate to ask.
