Description

Thank you for visiting my store.
This beautiful yarn bowl was made at the suggestion of a fellow Etsy store owner, ReNeau at KnittingbyReNeau. She liked the idea of having a wooden one that is indestructible as well as needing one that would hold more than one roll of yarn. I designed the bowl and decided to make it from segmented pieces. There are 85 individual pieces of beautiful Cherry (main body) and rich Rosewood (rim) that are cut to the exact shape necessary, glued into rings, stacked and then the entire piece is turned on my lathe. This piece of cherry is unique and beautiful with reds, golds, blacks forming a wonderful grain. I left the walls a little bit thick, approximately 3/8 inch, so that the piece would be stable on a table or couch. I also designed it with a broad base for the same reason. I hand carved the “J” for the yarn to pass through and added two additional holes to hold the needles when not knitting. The style of the "J" was suggested by Tanis Gray of TanisKnits.com and Author of Capitol Knits. I also curved the top edge in slightly so that the yarn would not pop out of the bowl.
I made this bowl a little bit taller than my other standard bowls at the request of several knitters. The bowl stands approximately 6 1/4 inches tall, has a 7 inch diameter at its widest and the opening is approximately 5 5/8+ inches, large enough for most projects. It has been finished with a cellulose sealer and several coats of lacquer which is not only durable but adds a rich, glossy luster to the piece. The piece is virtually indestructible and will last a lifetime. I have signed and dated the bowl.
Again, thank you for visiting my shop. Tim
