Ear wires are made of Niobium. Niobium (Nb) is a soft grey ductile metallic element, also known as columbium that can be coloured with currents of electricity. Along with titanium, tantalum, zirconium, pure refined gold, and platinum it is one of the six most bio-compatible elements.

Even people with severe metal allergies can usually wear niobium.

These pieces are made with copper and vitreous enamel, which has been fired from 5 to 7 times. It is enameled on the back (counter-enamelled) and signed.

The triple spiral is one of the oldest Celtic designs. It was in use from the 7th century BC right up to the present. This particular one is based on an enamelled escutcheon from around the 7th c AD.

It is fashionable now to associate it with the goddess, and the womanly triad of maiden, mother, crone, but in ancient Ireland there were many triads, for example:

"Three hands that are the best in the world: the hand of a good carpenter, the hand of a skilled woman, and the hand of a good smith"

"Three rude ones of the world: A youngster mocking one who is old, a healthy person mocking an invalid, a wise person mocking a fool."

"Three things for which an enemy is loved: wealth, beauty, worth. Three things for which a friend is hated: encroaching, unfamiliarity, fecklessness".

These pictures are of pieces NOW IN STOCK. They can be at your door in 3 to 7 days. Other colours are available, but will take a few more days.
