After almost a decade of fronting "The Police", Sting made it clear he was headed off on a solo career. While the band was on hiatus, he wrote and recorded this, his first solo effort, which became a triple Platinum success. In addition, among the ten tracks on the record are four songs that charted well as singles. The album's influences ran the gamut from Reggae and jazz, to classical (including an homage to Prokofiev's Lt. Kije Suite in the song "Russians"). Sting has since gone on to release eleven more successful albums, and remains one of today's most influential musicians.

I bought this record around the time of its release. It was one of my last vinyl purchases before jumping on the digital CD bandwagon (can you imagine?) and didn't get a lot of turntable time. As such, the record is in Near Mint condition. The cover shows a little wear after sitting on a shelf for a couple of decades. The inner gatefold picture sleeve is also in nice condition.

Sting's influence on The Police was evident. But his creativity was limited, because he had to work with two other strong-willed musicians. With this debut solo album, he was definitely "set free".

Condition Code:

5: Near Mint
4: Excellent
3: Very Good
2: Good
1. Fair

I rate each recording's quality only after carefully listening to the entire album.

Every LP has been lightly cleaned. All pictures of album covers in my listing are of the actual albums themselves.
