Beautiful patina on this 19th c Tibetan Buddhist amulet or prayer box, also known as Gau, Goa or Ghoa. These were portable prayer shrines in which the owner kept an image or small sculpture of their deity around their necks for meditation and prayer while traveling. The sides have brass loops in which a strip of fabric or string attached for wearing. This one has a small piece of string holding the back in place.
