Description

This is a lovely necklace made from an oyster shell. I have added gloss so it always looks as if it has just been taken out of the water. I have created a sliding knot closure so the necklace is adjustable to work with any neckline.
I use shells from sterile oysters grown in cages. These oysters grow very fast and do not develop the very thick and heavy shells that wild oysters do. Oysters filter the water of the Chesapeake Bay and their population is bouncing back due to aquaculture. This necklace is fun to wear and can raise awareness of how oysters are helping improve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay.
The last picture shows me eating oysters I have collected along the shoreline of the Great Wicomico River, about a mile from the bay!
