Notes; The typographical arrangement of this title page is in the style followed by the master inscribers in stone during the age covered by the text in this volume.The front cover design is a faithful reproduction of an 18th Century English binding, gold tooled, period of George 11- 111,on Hervey, Theron and Aspassio, London, 1755. The original is in the collection of French and English Royal Bindings in the Pierpoint Morgan Library, and is here reproduced by permission of the Board of Trustees.

Beautiful engravings in blue hues surrounded by embossed design with full page tissue covers. From the notes to the reader; "Appreciation is also due to Mr. Otto Kurth for the gathering of the wide series of historial pictures illustrating the whole, and to the Bettman Collection of Prints and Memorials for the series of pictures entitled "Glimpses of the Life of the Ages." The title pages, each thoroughly tyical of the printing style of its own period, have been designed mainly by Mr. Eugene M. Ettenberg."
