Description

These handmade decorative timber pieces of fruit have been turned from an offcut log of camphor laurel timber. They are approximately 7cm in diameter, and 6-9cm tall. Price is for both pieces of fruit shown. Camphor laurel trees are native to China, and were introduced to Australia in the 1800's as shade trees. They are now very much a pest, and a noxious weed. The good news is that they produce beautiful timber, with stunning grain and rich, contrasting colours.

The fruit is sanded finely, and finished with a thin coat of wax, which protects the timber and gives a nice shine, but will eventually soften to a more natural finish. This lets you see the grain and feel the texture of the timber.

The shape of every piece of fruit I turn is made up as I go. Combined with natural variations of the timber, this means that every piece is unique.

I make apples in red, green, or natural finishes, and pears in green/gold or natural. If there is a colour/fruit combination you'd like, but I don't have listed, please let me know or feel free to request a custom order. I am happy to combine postage where possible on any items.

Beautifully made - I purchased several of these for discerning friends and family who love the idea of rescuing and reusing wood that would otherwise go to waste. This is a gift that the receiver will always treasure, especially wood conisseurs
