Description

I'm deeply fascinated by the study of human evolution. I often draw upon this subject as inspiration in my work. In 2017 I completed a series of portrait pieces depicting famous early hominid skulls. This particular portrait is of La Chapelle-aux-Saints1, aka 'The Old Man.'

"La Chapelle-aux-Saints 1 ("The Old Man") is an almost complete male Neanderthal skeleton discovered in La Chapelle-aux-Saints, France by A. and J. Bouyssonie, and L. Bardon in 1908. The skeleton was about 40 years in age and is characterized by its loss of teeth, advanced resorption of bone in the mandible and signs of advanced arthritis. According to Stringer and Gamble (1993), it is the best and only convincing example of a Neanderthal deliberate burial."

This print was hand carved on a linoleum block then printed on a fine mulberry paper. These pieces have been printed in small editions and each print is hand numbered and signed. These images measure 6"x4", and the mats I have currently available are 8.5" x11".

My shipping costs are calculated around a best estimate based on average weight of packaging and weight if the piece. In the case that I overestimate, know that I refund all shipping overages!

Additional policies

Custom Ceramic Orders:

I am happy to fill custom orders for specialized sets of mugs, plates, bowls, etc. Please message me with a description of the items you're interested in, including specifications on shape, size, and colour. If you can reference a piece already in my shop as an indication of your preferred style that would be helpful.

If you purchase 4 or more of any one item I will offer a 10-20% discount off the regular cost of each piece.

Time frame for the completion of custom orders can vary significantly based on the firing schedule of the studios I work at. When I receive a request for a custom order I will do my best to estimate a time frame in which the works will be completed and shipped. Usually the minimum is about 3 weeks.
