Description

This yarn is hand dyed using natural dyes and the cochineal from Mexico.
Each hand-dyed skein is 100% Superwash Merino Wool- it knits up beautifully and is easy care too!

This listing is for the one (1) skein of the variegated cochineal - has label in photo.

Sport wt (202 to) 225yards/100 gm skein. (can be up to 10% less due to shrinkage in dyeing process)....which is why I put the lesser possibility in brackets. It's rarely that much shrinkage but I like to err on the side of caution so that you won't be short when purchasing the necessary yardage for your project.

Wash separately. Is light and washfast. With natural dyes sometimes there is a bit of dye left in the water when you wash it - but that won't effect the all around colour...leaving it outside for a year will :) I wouldn't wash it with whites though. I love this colour - it's a "pleasant pink" not harsh like some can be. It makes me smile just looking at it! I'll have some other natural dye colours posted eventually...so if there is something you are looking for please ask as it may just not be listed in the shop yet.

Excellent yarn for knitting, crochet and weaving (warp and weft).
This yarn will not felt. It is one of the most exquisite yarns I've found for sweater knitting....ok it's also good for hats, scarves, and more but I tend to focus on sweaters as that is my "project of choice" when I get to knit.

And remember to do a large gauge swatch when knitting a sweater as there yarn will relax quite a bit. Some naturally dyed yarns will have a slightly different feel when your knitting them up since an alum mordant is needed to "bite into" the dyestuff. Once you use Soak or Euculan or other no-rinse (or rinse) wool wash, it will be beautifully soft.

The shipping charge is for (one) 1 skein sent as a softly twisted skein to show off it's beauty as soon as you open the package!

The first photo is usually the truest colour. There will be 3 cochineal entries - and maybe 5 if I separate the fingering wt and sport wt - but for today since time is short I just wanted to get them up and available to you! There is one photo with each of the different batches sitting side by side - a highly variegated skein, a really light cochineal and then the medium cochineal. Please include a note with your purchase just so I am sure to get the right depth of colour...I may remember to ask if I don't see a selection included.

And as shown with the medium cochineal, I can ball the yarn for you at no extra charge if you like but there are no refunds on balled yarn.

Shipping policies

Please note that all parcels leaving Canada must have a Customs form that include your address AND a valid phone number. as of September 6th 2014. Your parcel can not be shipped without it so please include your phone number in the notes section with your order.

Orders will ship within 3-5 business days after receipt of payment and earlier if possible.

The shipping charge includes all postage and handling and packages are shipped via Canada Post expedited post. Package tracking is available at an additional charge (sometimes) in Canada and (almost always) in the US. If you would like the package tracked and additional insurance (as sometimes there is no insurance included) contact me and I can let you know the cost. Often with a tracked package shipping times are shorter as well.

I've always shipped everywhere around the world however it is a challenge to find a stable price to quote when there are so many variables! Oh my! So finally I have added International shipping - the prices are estimates. If I can send your item for substantially less I will issue a partial refund - if the price is quite a bit more I will let you know and either send an invoice for the difference or refund your purchase. Sometimes 2 items cost the same to ship as 1 - so I've not included additional pricing for second and third items etc....If I can combine shipping eg a blanket and towel - I will do that for you :). I am happy to give you an estimate for delivery - just ask me. Some items will be shipped with tracking number and insurance that can usually increase the cost of shipping. International shipments don't usually allow for either. Also items will be shipped in recyclable material whenever possible. Boxes may be used but that usually increases the cost. Blankets and shawls will be shipped in boxes (that may be recycled). For small items - I try to avoid plastic mailers whenever possible when they are non-recyclable. Manilla envelopes with bubble wrap inside are usually used for scarves, towels, table runners...smaller items - these are fully recyclable when separated. So many things to think about...and I've probably still forgotten something :)

And for local shipping too - if I can ship at a substantial savings for you I will. eg 1 towel sometimes (but not always) can be shipped as letter mail and then a modest $10 S&H charge will apply instead of for instance $20. In order to be shipped this way (remember letter mail is far slower than expedited...far slower) I won't use bubble wrap just a manilla wrap.

Please note International Customers are responsible for all customs fees, taxes, and duties associated with shipping to their respective countries.
