The grasshopper is a terrestrial that occassionally is blown by the wind into the water. Terrestrials, or land insects, usually struggle to leave the waters, and as a result, are often times an easy snack for the fish. This fly fits the category of "popper" due to the cork head that makes popping sounds in the water.

I invented this fly due to my great joy of catching bass on a top water lure. I wanted my fly to have as much action as possible, and as a result, took me awhile to design. This fly is designed to have the abdomen sink while the cork head stays afloat. Then twitch the line and cause the head to make 'popping' sounds. Pop for three twitches, and allow to sink again. This drives many fish crazy. It looks to the fish as an easy meal!
