Description

The Bible contains information that is timeless, every bit as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. The messages in it are not just relics of the past meant for our ancestors. They are also intended for us, today. What better way to show this than using infographics to display some key bits of Biblical wisdom in a way that speaks to today's audience? This clergy stole uses infographics to pull essential information off the printed page and into a format that we in our visual culture can readily absorb.

This stole is designed to be visually intriguing from a distance and easily readable up close. It contains seven infographics that provide modern representations of Bible verses that many of us know well.

Design notes: I am a librarian by training, which means I love connecting people with information. One day as I looked out at a beautiful, sunny Vermont morning, I had the idea for a pie chart infographic for Psalm 118 (“this is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”). I wondered whether I could come up with enough other infographics to fill a stole. I also wondered how exactly to design the infographics, and whether there was any way to get them onto fabric. It took me two years to come up with the other infographics on this stole, learn how to create infographics, and figure out how to get custom fabric printed, but once I had the idea, I just knew that I had to make it a reality.

The fabric for the front of the stole is printed in small batches by a small, US-based company that prints my designs onto high-quality 100% cotton material using eco-friendly, water-based pigment inks and dyes. It is lined with flannel for stability, and backed with a high-quality cotton material. This stole uses shades of green, making it perfect for Ordinary Time, and is available in either 52" or 55" in length, measured from the center back to the end of the stole.

Packaged in a flip-top box, ready for gift-giving.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I accept payments via PayPal or Etsy direct checkout in US dollars. You do not need a PayPal account to pay for your items through PayPal, meaning that you can pay with your credit card, e-check, or PayPal account. After you submit your order, click the “Pay Now” button. Scroll down and you will see the option to pay with a Credit or Debit Card or e-check WITHOUT having to sign up for a PayPal account.

Payment is expected within 3 days of purchase. If you need additional time, please convo me and arrangements will be made. Otherwise, the sale will be canceled and item will be re-listed.

I will ship after payment has cleared.

If there is a discrepancy between the shipping addresses on your Etsy account and your PayPal account, or if for any reason the address seems misspelled or incomplete, I will email or convo you to request clarification. To minimize the chance that your stole will not be shipped to you properly, I will wait to ship your order until confirmation of the address provided.

Liturgical stoles are categorized as clothing in the state of Vermont, so I do not collect sales tax, even for sales to Vermont addresses.

I want you to love your stole; I want my stoles to be the ones your hand gravitates toward on Sunday mornings as you robe (or that it is one that you are proud to give as a gift). I make each stole myself and strive to make sure that it is well-constructed. If you are not happy with your purchase for any reason, please kindly share your concerns within 30 days and give me an opportunity to make you happy again.

Shipping policies

I ship every Wednesday and Friday using USPS priority or first class mail. I can usually ship faster if needed, so if you would like an item shipped faster, or if you need an expedited shipping option, please contact me before you make a purchase, and I will let you know the options and I will adjust shipping costs before you purchase (if needed).

For shipments outside the US, customs, VAT, and any other taxes or duties are the responsibility of the buyer.

I send every customer a confirmation email when I mail your purchase. I also track your order and will send you a follow up email acknowledging that I see the order arrived as expected.

I package different stoles differently depending on the style, but package all stoles attractively and in a manner that ensures that they will arrive safely. Each listing contains information and pictures on how the stole will be packaged.

Additional policies

Each of my stoles is hand made, and I dye the cotton and cotton/hemp fabric used in my stoles. As such, minor variations and imperfections in the color are natural and to be expected. Duct tape stoles will generally have a few minor wrinkles or creases.

SIZING:
There is no hard and fast rule for how long a stole should be. It is a matter of personal preference. Some people like their stoles to reach just below their knees; others like them to be nearly as long as their robes. With this in mind, the best way to measure for a stole is to measure the length of a stole that the wearer has and likes.

Measuring using an existing stole: fold the stole in half. Place it on a smooth surface and measure from the center back to the end of the stole. Measure the side that comes closer to the neck rather than the outside of the stole.
Measuring without using an existing stole: measure from the center back of the neck down to where the wearer wishes the stole to end. Ideally, the wearer will be wearing his/her robe, but this will not generally affect the measurement too much.

If measuring is not possible: Here are some guidelines that you can use:
People 5’5” and shorter – 46”-51”
People between 5’6” and 5’11” – 48-53”
People over 6’ – 50”-55”

Some of my stoles can be made shorter if needed, and I can often re-create a stole in a different length. Send me a convo and I'll see what I can do!

LITURGICAL COLORS
Denominations and churches vary in the colors they use for various liturgical seasons and events; however, here is a list of the colors commonly used:

WHITE: Christmas (through Epiphany), Maundy Thursday, Easter, Trinity Sunday, All Saints Day (Nov. 1), Reign of Christ, Baptisms, weddings, funerals
BLACK: Ash Wednesday, Good Friday
RED: Palm/Passion Sunday, Pentecost, Reformation Day (October 31), ordinations
PURPLE: Lent, Advent
BLUE: Advent (some churches)
GREEN: all other Sundays (ordinary time)
If this is a gift, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure to check with the recipient or some other source to ensure that you are following the recipient's tradition.
