Description

Handmade Bronze and Gemstone beaded necklace. The necklace is 23" in length comprised of gorgeous chips of blue/violet Iolite gemstones. On each end of the strand is a translucent pale blue Fluorite gemstone bead and clasped with a hammered bronze s-hook. Like all of my beaded necklaces, I use the strongest beading wire on the market. 49 strand braided stainless steel beading wire with a nylon coating to match antiqued bronze/brass to match the Bronze crimps, rings, s-hook, and pendant. Iolite is said to have been the stone the Vikings used to find the sun on cloudy days in order to navigate the oceans. Doing to lead them to England, Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and in the year 1,000CE it lead them to North America where they had a settlement for at least a year. That's nearly 500 years before Columbus (who in actuality never stepped foot on American soil). So this stone has a rich history in travel, sea faring, and journeying in general.

The pendant is a 1.5" hammered Bronze medallion that has been etched with a symbol called a Triskelion, or Triskele.

NECKLACE SPECS:
Gemstone Beads: Iolite & Fluorite
Iolite Chip Beads: 1-3mm x 3-7mm
Fluorite Beads: Round 6mm
Necklace Length: 23" (58.4cm)
Pendant/Crimps/Rings/Clasp: Bronze
Pendant: 38mm x 38mm

ABOUT THE TRISKELION:

The triskele, or triple spiral, a symbol closely related to the triquetra, is a tripartite symbol composed of three interlocked spirals.
The triple spiral is an ancient Celtic symbol related to the sun, afterlife and reincarnation. It is supposed by some to be a symbol of pregnancy (the sun describes a spiral in its movements every three months; a triple spiral represents nine months), an idea reinforced by the womb like nature of the structure. The symbol also suggests reincarnation- it is drawn in one continuous line, suggesting a continuous movement of time.
Triskeles are one of the most common elements of Celtic art; they are found in a variety of styles in both ancient and modern Celtic art, especially in relation to depictions of the Mother Goddess. They also evoke the Celtic concept of the domains of material existence- earth, water, and sky, and their interrelations.

ABOUT IOLITE:

It is known as the Vikings' Compass, and provides the vision to move us, physically and spiritually, from one realm to the next.
Leif Eriksson and other Viking explorers who ventured far out into the Atlantic Ocean, away from any coastline that would help determine position, used thin pieces of Iolite as the world's first polarizing filter. Looking through an Iolite lens, they could determine the exact location of the sun and navigate safely to the New World and back.
A property called pleochroism is very pronounced in Iolite, producing different colors when the stone is seen through different positions. Overall, Iolite appears as violet-blue or indigo. It is also referred to as "Water Sapphire" or Dichroite. Iolite's name comes from the Greek ios, meaning violet, and is the gem version of the mineral Cordierite.

POWERS OF IOLITE:

It is said that Iolite helps in recovering balance, and is recommended for those suffering from disorientation, lack of motivation, chronic disorganization, and distraction. It strengthens the resolve to take on responsibility and carry through, and provides self-assurance and endurance in adverse situations. It is an excellent source of energy when used for the elimination of debt and the responsible management of money.

**Please note that I in no way am a doctor or guarantee any powers of these stones, I do however give information that has been associated with each gem that has been documents for countless years.
