This is saint Agnes. At 12, she was outed as a Christian. So, because the Roman authorities were horrible to women who hoped to remain virtuous for Christ, they sentenced her to be stripped nake-y and put on display in a well-trafficed location. The down side for any leering pervs, however, was that they were struck blind for looking at her. I guess enough dudes went blind that they decided to just end it and beheaded her.
Her feast day is January 21.

This is my first time actually celebrating Advent properly minus the secularism (I'm a work in progress), and wanted something memorable. Well God must grant wishes too because everything I received today will be memorable for years to come. I purchased both the Advent candles set and Byzantine Mary and Joseph. If you read my other review on the amazing Advent candles set (you won't be disappointed), then you know to go ahead and buy them; they are that awesome. I look forward to buying from ADH in the coming year. Also, these would make a great gift.
I love my icon! Perfect size for my needs. Looks great!
I too grew up with icons all gold and I never liked the style, believing as I do that neither would Christ. Dorothy Day, my hero, certainly would not. So I adore your simple creations.
So beautiful. I love the way this combines the Catholic image of the sacred heart with the byzantine/orthodox style of icon writing. Hung it right up over the light switch in my bedroom so I see it at the beginning and end of my day. Thank you for sharing your talent. A worthy expression of faith.
