Description

Thank you for stopping by my shop. I have had several requests for a compact knitting bowl for smaller projects to compliment my popular larger segmented knitting bowls. I decided to stay with the same appealing shape but shrunk the dimensions. The bowl has 73 individual pieces of Hard Maple for the body and beautiful and exotic Zebrawood for the top ring. The individual pieces were formed into rings, stacked and then turned on my lathe to the final shape. As with the larger bowls I carved a “J” to accommodate feeding the yarn and two holes for needles when not in use. I kept the base broad to make it sturdy and curved the top edge in so that the yarn wouldn’t pop out. The resulting heirloom quality bowl is not only beautiful but virtually indestructible. The bowl is approximately 4 inches tall, has a 6 1/2 inch diameter at its widest and has an opening at the top of approximately 4 3/4 inches.
I finished the bowl with a cellulose sealer and several coats of lacquer finish to give it a durable, beautiful, shiny luster. I have included a picture comparing the three sizes of bowls that I presently make. I have signed and dated the bottom of the bowl.
Again, thank you for visiting my shop.
