Description

"In My House" is a series of paintings that I paint with primarily vertical and horizontal brushstrokes. My goal is to keep elements simple so the paintings don't try to erect a monument to their own achievement. The paintings are are broken and flawed so that their value is more in the spirit they carry than in the proof of their excellence. The name, "in my house" comes from the lines at 90 degrees, but also from the home within our bodies. Our homes are built in interaction with the things and the people around us. Art can be a part of this home building, to help us understand ourselves and the people around us, and help us see the world around us with a finer resolution. Abstract, or more specifically non-represntational art, doesn't clearly reference any person or thing in the world, but it suprises us pleasantly when we recognize mutual feelings and ideas. Deeper than feelings and ideas, we find we share a lot of our sense and experience of the world with others.

I became a grandpa in 2012, and so paintings after that are "In Grandpa's House" or in this case grandpas garden.

The painting is on thin absorbent chinese paper sent to me from Taiwan. It is mounted on 1/4 inch plywood coated with acrylic gesso.
