A bit about the process:

For some people, throwing clay on the potter's wheel can be addictive. It certainly was for me. Once I tried it, I could not stop and that was over 30 years ago. Basically, you put a lump of clay in the middle of a wheel head, start the wheel spinning and, once you get that clay “centered”, you turn it into something beautiful. “Centering” the clay is one of the most important steps in throwing pottery.  If your clay is not centered when you begin to pull up the piece, it will be off balance, and you will fight the clay the whole time.  If I am centered, then the clay centers and all goes smoothly. If I am not centered, it's a different story. It is a great metaphor for life...

I work primarily with a white stoneware clay because I love the way the glazes look over the white clay. Stoneware clay is well-suited to creating kitchenware and tableware. It is a clay body that can be fired to a high enough temperature to vitrify it. This means it is not porous and will not absorb moisture or leak when liquid is left in it. It is fired in a pottery kiln to at least 2200° F. You can put it in the dishwasher and in the oven. When putting in the oven, it is best to start with a cold oven and bake no higher than 350°F.

Cheryl is a true artist! This colander is a lovely. The attention to detail is a true surprise as they are not visible in the images. The swirl in bottom plate is a wonderful touch. The legs on the colander will be perfect for use. I did buy this as a functional piece and loved the color but I am blown away by the actual product. Highly recommended! Shipping fast and carefully packaged to protect from breakage. Thank you!
