Original Antique Birds Egg Print by Morris 130 Year Old Wood Block Engraving.

We at WE SELL USED GODS are delighted to offer this hand colored woodblock engraving by Francis Orpen Morris, A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds 1875 of the specie RAZOR BILL.

Morris became an early advocate for conservation and was instrumental in founding the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in England.

The condition of the plate is good, with high quality, heavy paper. The print measures approximately 6 inches by 9 3/4 inches with side margins of 1/2 inch. The relevant descriptive text is included whenever possible. The photo is very accurate, so please review carefully.

Our prints at WE SELL USED GODS are authentic antique prints and guaranteed to be from the date stated. These print(s) are about 130 years old.

Morris wrote the text, Alexander Frank Lydon (1836-1917) was the illustrator and Benjamin Fawcett (1808-1893) printed the plates.

The desirability of this work and its survival in such pristine condition is due to the superb skills and techniques of Fawcett, which are now largely lost. He selected, ground and mixed his inks with the utmost care.

This antique heavy stock paper has seen little deterioration with almost no foxing and it retains its fine ivory color and sheen. The plates were color printed in up to four colors, with additional hand coloring.
