This antique looking brooch featuring a playful dog was molded out of white polymer clay from a vintage Cracker Jacks toy. When the clay was removed from the mold, its bottom edge was cut with a scalloped clay cutter, giving it a nice wavy edge. The top edge was cut using a curved blade, giving the brooch a sophisticated semi-circular shape.

After the clay was baked, extra detail lines were etched into the clay and then the brooch was painted with thin washes of burnt umber acrylic paint. Before the paint was dry, it was wiped off, leaving the dark paint in the etched lines and recessed areas, giving it an antiqued look. Next the brooch was given a thin coat of clear liquid polyclay and the whole thing was baked again, giving the brooch a light sheen.

As a final step, the reverse side was painted with black acrylic paint and a silver pin back was attached.
