Sheet music for "The Gypsy," words and music by Billy Reid. Single sheet folded to create front and back with music inside. Published 1946 by Peter Maurice Music Co. and Leeds Music, New York. Piano music in Key of C.

Condition: Average wear -- bottom right corner of front is creased; edges rubbed; light age-tanning to paper. Previous owner wrote name at top right corner, but in blue ink on a blue background, so it's barely noticeable.

This song was popularized by the Ink Spots, Dinah Shore, and many others. Here are the lyrics:

"I sit alone and dream dear,
Dream of you night and day,
Once you were here beside me,
Now you are far away.
I've had my fortune told me,
Can I believe it's true?
Soon we shall be together,
Living our life anew.

"In a quaint caravan there's a lady they call the Gypsy,
She can look in the future, and drive away all your fears,
Ev'rything will come right if you only believe the Gypsy,
She could tell at a glance that my heart was so full of tears.
She looked at my hand and told me my lover was always true,
And yet in my heart I knew dear,
Somebody else was kissing you.
But I'll go there again 'cause I want to believe the Gypsy,
That my lover is true and will come back to me some day."
-- Billy Reid.

The handsome Art Deco illustration would look great matted and framed, or sitting on your vintage piano!
