This complete set of one-of-a-kind checkers pieces has been hand made with discarded bottle caps and plastic army men. 12 pieces are green with a white bottle cap and the other 12 pieces are beige with a white bottle cap [pictured]. The plastic figures sit inside the caps which are are covered with a 2 part resin to keep them secured. Affixed to the underside of each piece is a small disc which was handcut from a discarded wine cork to make it smoother to move the pieces across the board during play. (board not included)

The origins of the game of checkers goes back to the cradle of civilization. Signs of the earliest form of the game were discovered in southern Mesopotamia, carbon dated at 3000 B.C. Today the game continues to entertain and inspire countless people across the world; illuminating the fact that competitive battles can be waged with peace and in the spirit of play.

Makes a great gift for anyone who enjoys a good game of checkers. This unique upcycled checkers set also looks great and is a sweet reminder that discarded items of our past can be rescued, re-used and upcycled for further enjoyment. For 'kinging' purposes during game-play, we are including 24 small yellow ribbons which can be tied onto the piece which is being 'kinged'.
