Description

The Coyotes Nephew Medicine Bag...
The Kit Fox Society (also known as The Water Coyote clan) of the Hopis is also associated with kit foxes and Coyotes. Fox is associated with fire and the sun, and according to some myths, it was Fox (or coyote) who stole fire to bring to the people. Leetayo is the Hopi word for fox. In the Hopi tribe, fox skins are also used as dance regalia by kachina dancers and as kiva adornments during ceremonies. These tiny foxes get grouped with our native coyote from time to time.
Other common names for the kit fox include: desert fox, zorra del desierto, zorra norteña (Spanish). They are the smallest of all foxes weighing only between 3.5 and 6 pounds. Our desert fox was made for New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and West Texas where creosote (chaparral) grows.
Kit Foxes can survive without free water, gaining what they need from the blood and moisture in their prey, and so can live in the aridest areas. They are the only canines to use dens year-round. Some dens may have as many as 7 to 10 entrance holes, making it appear that there are more kit foxes than there really are.
Kit foxes are nocturnal, retreating to the relative coolness and humidity underground during the day probably helps them to survive in these hot, arid environments. Our southwest fox has extremely large ears that help the fox lower its body temperature and give it exceptional hearing. Another unique feature of their anatomy is the fur on the soles of their feet, forming a kind of “sand shoe.” To avoid detection by a predator, coyotes, owls, eagles and humans, it also has the ability to flatten itself against the ground. The kit fox does not tolerate human presence and requires a desert habitat to survive.

Be the spirit of the kit fox with The Coyotes Nephew Medicine Bag...

FAQs

The section called Gallery CUSTOM from Sold is to help customers wanting a custom-made bag to find similar bag ideas. Select one of these and I will make a CUSTOM bag for you similar to it or of the same subject matter. The bag color is of my choice but I will try to accommodate a special request. These bags cannot be duplicated, obviously, being one-of-a-kind creations. Once a custom-made order is placed there are no exchanges, new selection or return.
Earthwayspirits medicine bags are hand crafted and hand painted, one of a kind. The craftmeanship of the leather pouch is substantial. The beading is secured with polyester threat to prevent breaking. The painting, however, will not withstand misuse of any kind; stretching, scraping or exposing it to any liquids. I use a fabric paint sealant to make the paint and ink more adherant. Under normal wear and tear, earthwayspirits medicine bags should last years. Store in a dry, dark and cool place...
Allow me 8 days to create your medicine bag and then add shipping time. Please inquire through Etsy messaging if you would like to request a specific color leather or beading be used, only if available.
