Shakespeare on the American Stage Vol 2, by Charles H. Shattuck covers the stage from Booth and Barrett to Southern and Marlowe. The 1987 hardcover is a coffee table book of Shakespearean actors and actresses who appeared in American theatres from the 1870s to the 1920s, with 281 illustrations.

Shakespeare is still a magic word in the theater world. "Cool!" describes it today. "Get with it !" was yesterday.

The author explores performances during the heyday of American classical theatre in the late 19th century and early 20th century. His thoughtful study of some of America's most memorable performers and their work provides enlightenment for theater historians, fans of the Bard, and also the most casual reader.

The book measure 7 3/4 inches x 11 1/4", has 339 pages and is in very good condition. The colorful dust jacket shows a little shelf ware, but otherwise the book looks near new. Two of the illustrations are in full page and in color.
