Description

A hand carved Sandpiper carved by the renowned Master Carver William (Bill) H. Reinbold. A son of George W. Reinbold, who established Reinbold Studios in the mid 1930's in Pennsylvania. A second generation wood carver, who began assisting his father with carving when he was only 8 years of age. Reinbold Studios is still in business today under the name Windy Meadow Studios.
This miniature Sandpiper is mounted behind a convex dome in a shadowbox frame. The workmanship of this masterful carving speaks for itself, but a few elements of this diorama have been refreshed without causing any disservice to the authenticity or the quality of this genuine Bill Reinbold original. Most all of these frames included a particle board back, that are decaying with age. The glues and resin that were used to bond the particles of wood together have become time-worn and are losing their adhesion. The back has been hand coated with a medium rubbed finish, that should slow down this decay. The fasteners on the back of the frame have also been updated with functional framing points, that will allow the owner to disassemble the frame if needed in the future. The molded Eastern Walnut frame has also been revitalized with a light sanding and a fresh Special Walnut stain, to bring back the original tones. The dome has been removed for cleaning both on the inside and on the front of the glass dome, which has reclaimed its sparkling appearance. Overall, this collectible woodcarving has undergone the conservation efforts needed in order to unmask its original beauty, that it received some fifty or sixty years ago, when it was initially created.
