Description

108 bead Baltic amber mala hand knotted on black cord with golden yellow silk tassel. Faceted black Baltic amber guru bead. Made in Seattle, WA.

Amber gives a soothing, light energy that is both calming and energizing at the same time. It is said to help manifest desires and heighten intellectual abilities, clarity of thought, and wisdom. It is reputed to cleanse its environment by drawing out negativity, and to relieve physical pain the same way. It is used mystically to bring the energies of patience, protection, psychic shielding, romantic love, sensuality, purification, balance, healing and calmness to those who wear or carry it.

DETAILS:
7-9mm genuine baltic amber beads (the shape of these beads can vary a bit so each mala will be unique)
10x12mm black amber guru bead
knotted on black cord
hand-made golden yellow silk tassel (this type of silk used in the tassel won't splay out or kink easily like some silk does. It is matte and looks similar to cotton but with the feel and slight sheen of raw silk)

Malas are tools of meditation, like a rosary. As one recites their mantra or intention, a bead is crossed over a finger. That way one can keep track of how many recitations of the mantra has been repeated. They can also be worn around the neck to remind one of their path, purpose, personal intention or to help one with an aspect of their life that might be challenging.

FAQs

Absolutely. Generally , Etsy has a great default shipping calculator, but sometimes it calculates incorrectly. If you are charged over $1 more than what the shipping costs me I will issue a refund.
Hand knotting with silk or nylon cord takes 2-3 times longer than stringing beads on thread with seed beads in between.
My unique way of knotting creates very tight knots, so there are no gaps between the beads, and I use the thickest size cord I can to ensure the stability of each creation.
Traditionally, a mala is a tool for meditation, similar to a rosary. One will hold a mala in the hand, or over a finger and recite a mantra, intention, or prayer. With each repetition, a mala bead is pulled over the finger using the thumb.

Many different traditions use meditation beads and have different names for them. Mala is the Sanskrit version of the word. Malas have also become a popular accessory for the yoga lover, as they can help remind one of the path they are on, both on and off the mat.
Usually yes, but not always. I design my malas to be worn as a necklace and to be used in meditation. Some people have found that they can wear them wrapped around their wrist, but not everyone's wrist is the same size and each mala can vary in size depending on the beads. Forcing a mala over your wrist is not recommended and can cause breakage.

If you'll be wearing one of my malas as a bracelet, let me know and I'll be sure to include some tips for how to improve the life of your mala and how to get a great fit no matter your wrist size.
Yes. This is a common request for those who wish to wear their mala around the wrist or who prefer a pendant instead of a tassel. Contact me and I can elaborate on your options.
There are many ways to customize your mala at no additional fee. Here are a few options:

Spacer Bead:
From matte to glossy to metallic there are countless color options here.

Knotting:
I have a nice variety of colors in silk or nylon to choose from, and changing the color of knots can make a big difference in the look & feel.

Tassel:
I prefer to use silk on my tassels and that can limit the color options but I also have a wide variety of cotton and all purpose thread if you wish to have a color that doesn't come in silk, or prefer a vegan option for any reason.

Mala Beads:
Substitutions are welcome but sometimes incur an additional cost.
Yes! Always. I take a great deal of pride in my tassels and I hand-make each one. I have 2 types of silk and an all purpose thread I use depending on the mala.

1. Matte silk:
This is my go-to, it's durable and easy to care for. Most malas in the shop use this silk. It does not "kink" or flair out like some silk tassels do over time.

2. "Fancy" silk:
This is thicker than the matte silk and has more of a shimmer to it. It also has a beautiful bounce and flow to it. It is quite durable if taken care of correctly and won't splay out or kink up like the really thin shiny silk does.

3. All purpose thread is a blend that is very soft and super durable.
