Silk Scarf, Hand Painted - Elephant Sisters - Ready to Ship - Fall Fashion

I absolutely adore elephants. There are so many parallels that can be drawn between the elephant kingdom and the human world... and these beautiful, surprisingly graceful creatures are simply fascinating to me. This is my first version of "wearable" elephant art, adapted from my mixed media series on elephants (http://www.joannareadcotter.com/elephant-series.html) ...imagine wrapping yourself up in a silky sisterhood of elephants!

Adorn yourself in this one of a kind work of art with seven sister elephants of varying generations, traveling together to their next destination. The warm yet neutral tiger's eye palette - warm golds, burnt umber, raw umber, copper, burnt sienna, is perfect for Fall, and the animal print-inspired batik border ties together perfectly.

The 14”x72” length is versatile enough to tie in a number of ways, and the medium-weight 12mm satin has a smooth, buttery feel and an incredible sheen, yielding rich, mouthwatering colors. The hand rolled, hand hemmed edges of the silk add to the unique artisan quality that you cannot find with mass produced scarves.

---How This Was Crafted----
This one of a kind design was created using powdered seaweed to thicken the dye, enabling it to be painted directly onto the silk without it spreading or bleeding, and eco-friendly soy wax was applied to the border of the scarf to create the one-of-a kind animal print. The scarf has been painted entirely freehand, making this a very unique work of wearable art.

---Care Instructions----
To care for your new scarf, dry clean or hand-wash in cold water with a drop of mild soap. Rinse, and blot dry with a soft towel. When silk is just slightly damp, iron on the backside on low setting. A small care card is included with each purchase.

All of my scarves are made to last a lifetime. They are painted with professional-grade silk dyes, then steam set for five hours for ultimate performance and wear. Unlike paints that sit on the surface of the silk, dyes chemically bond with the silk fibers during the steaming process, yielding the most brilliant colors possible.
