Description

Antique phulkari fabric, hand-embroidered, multicolor, first half of the 20th century, Punjab, India

Light weight all over embroidery, not very dense but rich in details, in multicolor silk on a cotton base, all the yarns have been dyed with natural and hand dyeing methods. Geometric design with squared shapes, lines and various symbols that alternate in an incredible harmony.

The silk embroidery was made on a base of cotton strips about 50 cm high and then sewn together, on the back of the fabric are visible the joints of the embroidered strips.

Embroidery is in colors that are still very bright, in shades of red, blue, yellow/gold on a cotton-dyed background with natural vegetable dyes in a brick-red tone.

The phulkari are antique fabrics, all hand-embroidered, whose tradition has been lost over the years, those made today are completely different machine-made and much less rich, this model is unique and very valuable. There are imperfections in the embroidery and dyeing being a product made entirely by hand using a hand loom and natural dyes, any defects are part of the charm of the object.

Measures in cm (approsimative):
235x138 cm
